Strictly Balkan workshop with Mitko Petrov
Our Strictly Balkan dance group has now been going for just over a year, which I find so pleasing. It could have folded after just a couple of classes but people keep coming and are enjoying the music and the intricate steps. Today was a very proud moment for me because we had a real live Bulgarian dance teacher come and do a workshop!
I've known Mitko since 2011 when he first taught in London and again in 2018. He is over in the UK again for about 10 days, did a workshop in London last weekend and is teaching at a dance festival in Evesham called May Heydays this weekend. We were originally going to host him at our Oxford group on Thursday night but the hall we use is a polling station when there are elections, so I asked him if he'd like to come to my beginners' group in Northleach and he agreed. Quite a thrill and he did a wonderful job, choosing fun dances with lovely music which were not too difficult from Bulgaria, Greece, Serbia, Hungary and a gypsy dance from Macedonia. Needless to say, I am now exhausted but Mr Sk was a star and not only filmed everything at the end but also sorted out a technical problem at the beginning! Mitko is the tall one, standing behind yours truly!
