Drying Ground Bullfinch

I had a fitness session first thing and Sara focused on upper body exercises which I will no doubt feel the benefit of in the morning!

Back home Tony returned from the allotment and we enjoyed cuppas on the patio attempting to identify the wildflowers appearing on the mini meadow before he returned to more clearing, potting on and planting and I took the hoe and my camera up to the drying ground to do an hour of bracken hoeing (very satisfying if you need to expend some excess energy and emotion!).   I cleared bracken for three quarters of an hour or so and then set Merlin going whilst finding a spot far enough away from the feeder to capture anything coming to it.  This male bullfinch spent a lot of time there and chased off any other birds which came near!  I was disappointed not to see a female as they usually appear in pairs and I believe mate for life but do correct me if I have that wrong.  Merlin 'identified' (you have to be cautious about its findings) twelve different bird sounds and I was pleased that song thrush did appear several times so that's a pretty good indication that it was correctly identified.  Something was singing above me a song I couldn't identify but I couldn't locate it in the canopy to get a blip.

Back home for lunch now and wondering how to pass the afternoon...
