The Depot

If you ever go to Rotterdam, you must visit The Depot. Technically, it’s a storage facility for the artwork from the Boijman museum across the street which closed in 2019 for renovations. It’s unlike any storage facility, gallery or museum that I have ever been to! 

The outside is a beautiful sight. Evidently the locals didn’t want an ugly storage facility in their neighbourhood, so instead the building reflects the beauty all around. Inside it combines storage at low humidity and steady temperatures with unique displays of art. Plus, the roof space has a (very reasonable) restaurant and an outdoor space that provides a great 360 degree view of the city. I’ve attached a few extras to illustrate. 

Later on we strolled into town and found a very cool street that featured murals of musicians. We stopped off at a cafe and the barista kindly gave me a wee gift for my birthday. 

All in all a fantastic day in Rotterdam in the sunshine!
