The boy smashed it
We went to church and stayed for church lunch. A great morning. Rushed home, faffed around a bit but then headed into London. SkyeMan was running in the Marathon.
We unintentionally met WelshMan and Dot.T on a train platform :-) and headed to a mile 18 viewing point. It was so exciting to encourage people as we waited for him to reach us. What a joy to see him and give him a quick hug. We tagged it across to Mile 20 and saw the same people to cheer on as SkyeMan approached.
We then set off for Mile 23, knowing how hard those miles are. Saw him. Loved him and we set off to Mile 25. Saw him there too and pegged it to Mile 26. So 5 times we saw him. Only possible of course because we were cutting corners. It was his feet that gave him the most trouble. So proud of him for keeping going. He hasn’t been training so he knew — we all knew — that it was going to be tough.
We sat in shade with HatBox and other members of their family and friends with him afterwards, all enjoying the feel of the medal and the relief in him. Elbows went off to find somewhere for us to snack - not easy in Whitehall, but he found a table and we all got to it eventually, with SkyeMan needing some understandable help from 2 friends.
We left them there to catch trains home, leaving with Dot.T and WelshMan. For one train connection that really mattered, we ran as fast as we could to catch it. We had 3 minutes. Obv the 2 younger ones were much much quicker - but I’ve not belted across train stations ever as fast as we did this evening.
Home, with nearly 27,000 steps done and very tired. And we weren’t the ones running the marathon!
