Magpie Mine

Leaving the Nightingale Centre this morning, I took a winding and gentle route back to the motorways and home.

I passed the Magpie Mine and stopped for a shot. It's an old but well preserved lead mine near Sheldon in Derbyshire. Indeed it was the last working lead mine, closing in the late fifties after two hundred years.

And then I had to stop again for the extra... The size of the oak tree and the way the dry stone walls (that are everywhere up here) sink almost as if the weight of the tree is deforming the landscape...

...and I had a strange resonance with the Sycamore Gap... I wonder if you get it too. Anyhow, home again and catching up. ;-)
