ANZAC Wreath Laying

25 April is ANZAC day, commemorating the Australia, New Zealand Army Corps and their battles during WW1, particularly Gallipoli  which is marked annually on the anniversary of the Gallipoli campaign.
As it is a weekday, and people are at work, outside of Australia & N.Z., we commemorate it on the Sunday.
Today Rab and I attended the wreath laying, at the Gloucester City war memorial, representing the RBL Riders Branch.
There were standards (see extra) and the Gloucester Army Cadets were in attendance as well as the High Sheriff of Gloucester, The lady Mayor, both of whom laid a wreath, along with the RBL City branch chair and the Army cadets.
A young man, probably about 14 or so, played the last post beautifully on a trumpet, followed by the reveille after the silence.
I would normally go on from there to Leighterton Village, about 30 minutes ride, but not this year due to having the girls at home plus Buddy and Hendrix this week as it's Easter half term. At Leighterton we have a religious service and the local primary school children lay sprigs of Rosemary on the 24 graves of Australian airmen who died during flight training all those many years ago. It's the first time I've missed it since joining the Riders branch, hopefully I'll make it again next year.
