Barley Sugar Chimneys

We went to the Grosvenor garden centre today which is in a very nice setting. Next door is the country house of the Duke of Westminster - Eaton Hall. He is definitely quite rich and on certain days of the year he allows the common people to have a look round the grounds. We went once and very nice it was too, so big he has his own runway. Bird boxes were purchased. Birds don’t need a runway. Only swans perhaps. Many of the old houses and buildings near here in Cheshire have barley sugar chimneys. While primarily decorative, barley sugar chimneys also serve a practical purpose. The twist or spiral shape helps to create a stronger structure at the top of the chimney and also assists in draught control.
It’s the play offs for Torquay United. I’ll take that.
We are still away from home and tickets went on sale today. Probably sold out now. Never mind.
