A time for everything

Azaleas

Friday
A dull showery day today, spent largely at home, other than going for a swim (40 lengths) in the afternoon. We had the pool to ourselves to start with, but by the time we left, each lane was occupied. My blip is of our azaleas flanking our front door. I blipped them earlier in the week, as they were just opening up, but given that it’s Flower Friday, and in the absence of anything better, I decided they could enjoy a few more moments in the spotlight!
In the evening we were out at another Cincinnati Symphony concert. We managed to get there in the dry, but when we came out it was raining, which as we drove home, developed into a thunderstorm, with some impressive sheet lightning. The concert comprised just one work, Mahler’s impressive 6th Symphony, scored for a huge orchestra, and lasting over 80 minutes. I’m a big fan of Mahler, particularly his 5th and 3rd symphonies. This one I wasn’t previously familiar with, but it gripped us both, with its melodic passages contrasting with its crashing climaxes.
