Requiescat in pace

I watched much of the funeral of Pope Francis today which took place in the spectacular setting of St Peter’s Basilica. I am not a Catholic and, whilst I was brought up in the Anglican tradition, I'm generally pretty ambivalent about religion. So, I hadn't appreciated what a compassionate and humble leader Pope Francis was until hearing and reading about him since his death. One can only hope that the homily at his funeral emphasising his support for the poor, displaced and disadvantaged caused some stirring in those world leaders present at the ceremony (one in particular!) who don't seem to possess an ounce of compassion and seek only to divide and punish those who disagree with them. It seemed entirely in keeping with the Pope Francis I have come to.know in the past week that he chose to be buried in a church in a poorer part of Rome rather than the Crypt of St Peter’s.
