Special Olympics
Last night saw the opening ceremony of the 2009 Special Olympics at the Walkers Stadium in Leicester.
The teams represent all the main regions from the UK and consist of athletes with learning difficulties including Downs Syndrome and autism..Some of them cannot even read or write, but they all have one common bond and that is a huge love for sport of all kinds and they are no less competetive than their able bodied counterparts....in fact probably more so
The opening ceremony was a colourful mix of drama, dance, music and poetry and of course the parade of the athletes. They all got a fantastic welcome as the walked round the pitchside.
The games themselves will be held in venues all over Leicester and will end with the closing ceremony on Friday.
