ANZAC fly past

A Boeing P-8a Poseidon of the Royal New Zealand Air Force flew a route down the South Island this morning in commemoration of ANZAC Day.

An interesting tale as to why NZ and Australia commemorate ANZAC rather than Armistice Day.
After WWI and instigated by the poem Flanders Fields it was decided that the poppy would be the emblem to commemorate those lost in the war and the poppies were only being produced in France. NZ and Australia placed an order to also join the Armistice Day memorial but the poppies were delayed and never arrived in time and rather than not use them it was decided to have ANZAC Day as the main memorial.

I did research this and found no evidence to contradict it.
