English Bluebells
I arrived at St Luke’s with minutes to spare before the service began. It was only then that I remembered that I was actually supposed to have got there early to learn how to set up the side altar which we use on Thursdays! Oh well, I think it’s the same as Sundays but with only one chalice and patten instead of two, very dainty little glass and silver-topped jugs for the wine and water, and fewer candlesticks to set out and light. I helped to clear it all down afterwards, and wash the jugs and chalice. My blip for today shows some beautiful English bluebells growing on one of the oldest graves in the churchyard - I loved the way they were spot-lit by the sun through the trees.
We had our usual coffee afterwards, and then I went home to spend the whole afternoon catching up with the various stages of paperwork for each of the five people for whom I’m currently organising memorial plaques and entries into the book of remembrance. I had to chase up the jewellers about three plaque engraving orders I had put in over a month ago, and lo and behold they are now ready for me to collect tomorrow. What with organising my own house renovation project, my head is once again bursting with the volume of emails and phone calls. Our Rector wants me to go on the PCC (basically the church committee) but, having served on several committees throughout my entire adult life, frankly I just don’t want to!
I bought some weedkiller this afternoon, and collected a parcel from the off-licence/everything shop. And that was my day done.
