Pennan
Sent from my iPad
In 1983 Pennan was one of two main locations used for the film 'Local Hero' and many locals were involved in scenes of a dance in the village hall. The beach parts were shot in Arisaig.
Pennan sits at the base of a north-facing cliff looking out to sometimes stormy seas. There is just enough space between the bottom of the cliffs and the sea for a single row of dwellings, many placed gable end on to the sea to reduce their exposure to the elements. In 2007 many parts of the village were damaged by a mudslide from the cliffs behind.
Today many of the houses are holiday homes but the village is popular with tourists and with local artists.
