Shakespeare's Birthday

Possibly not accurate as a date but at some point in April 1564 Shakespeare was born.  Probably.

it's also St George's Day.  The patron saint of England, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Georgia, Ukraine, Malta, Ethiopia, the regions of Catalonia and Aragon, and the cities of Venice, Genoa, Moscow & Beirut.

Not bad for a Roman soldier (born in Turkey) who was apparently martyred by the emperor Diocletian somewhere in Israel.  He also never visited England.  And the story of him and the dragon apparently happened in Libya some 500 years after his death.

To paraphrase "when you have to choose between history and legend, print the illuminated manuscript" (You've all seen the Man Who Shot Liberty Valance?)
