A Perfect Day

We started by having our breakfast at an elk viewing meadow, once again just a skip and a jump off the main highway. Roosevelt Elk, big fellas that weigh in over a thousand pounds, can swim raging waters, run 40 miles an hour, and leap over eight foot barriers. Don't go in the meadow! Which is why there is no fabulous picture of an elk. But we watched them for over an hour as they grazed from left to right across the bright green field. They say the herd has over 100 animals, and it was a treat to see them from fairly close.

On to find a lovely campsite at a county park overlooking the ocean--I can hear the surf from this table, and the sun was out all afternoon. There was a Seafood Festival in nearby Charleston, where we had sinfully fried fish and chips at a table overlooking the harbor.

Then on to Shore Acres park with its formal gardens of roses and bright dahlias, brilliant remains of a timber baron's estate from long ago. These cliffs extend in both directions, full of fascinating rock formations and offering long views of the ocean.
