Our neighbours are currently debating the colour scheme for the gates of our shared garden. Specifically, do we like the gold embellishments? The prevailing opinion at the moment is that they should revert to black. I thought it a good idea to blip them before they disappear.

There is so much to do in the garden at the moment that I gave the gym a miss this morning and focussed instead on sorting out our front yarden. As I did so, I enjoyed listening to a Woman's hour special on decluttering. If it had been a live programme, I may well have phoned in to relate the hideous experience of clearing my mother's house.

This afternoon I brewed soup (carrot and coriander, and carrot and lemon - taking advantage of the current supermarket price war on root vegetables), then headed up the road for a meeting with Bruce at Elly's office on Forth Street. Mr hazelh kindly marmelised the soup while I was out.

I think that it's the first of this year's semi-finals on University Challenge tonight.

Exercise today: 1 hour on the exercise bike; gardening; walking (10,403 steps).
