Joyeuses Pâques
It's Monday and I'm playing catch up again!
Yesterday started early when I got up to prepare the meat to go in the oven and start cooking while I was in church. We were having chicken and beef as granddaughter sensitivities ruled out the Paschal lamb, lol. I did the veg the night before so that was organised.
All done, I headed off to church remembering to pick up my passenger today (I can't count the number of times I've driven past her house then had to do a U turn further down the road (sometimes at church) when I realise I've driven past her house again! It's not a great distance, less than a mile so no great deal. We don't take her every week, so I'm not really in the routine.
The church was looking beautiful and we had a good sized congregation several visitors and some extended families make all the difference. I was still wearing the Easter stickers Josie gave me yesterday so passed two on to a couple of child visitors which pleased them. I'd taken some wee eggs for coffee time too which went down well.
After coffee time, by the time I got home, Ali had just arrived and put Bonnie down for her nap so she could join in with the rest of the day. Josie was very excited.
Katy, Jon and the girls arrived not long after, Eilidh carrying the Easter banner she'd made at church. Joan joined us soon after, she spent Christmas with us too. She's a university friend from St A's and doesn't have any local family, I think she enjoys our chaos. She brought Hot Cross Buns from a local Boulangerie, they had icing rather than pastry crosses. We were too full to enjoy them yesterday so I'm having one for breakfast today. We didn't get around to our spare Christmas pudding either, that too is for another day. Mum always kept a pudding for Easter and I was rather looking forward to this one. Lunch was fun with nine of us round the table we had a quick call to Colin, Drew and Lisa in Rhode Island too, they were still on their boiled eggs!
Next it was time for the main event - the Easter egg Hunt. Jon had deputised for the Easter Bunny while I was cooking. I can't remember if I said, but we have a system of each person only collecting one colour of egg which means you can grade the various hiding places in terms of difficulty.
Bonnie had great fun and didn't let go of her basket all afternoon. Even when we were back in the house she was having great fun putting the eggs in and out. She hadn't worked out they were edible, lol.
Josie was almost beside herself with excitement.
Isobel was lovely helping the others as well as finding her own and Eilidh was very cool about it, being very sensible but having fun too. Knowing how many they each have to find means it's not as competitive and the older two were giving clues to the younger. What fun. The girls are in the extra.
Ali and her girls headed off not long after, Josie got quite beside herself with excitement and over tiredness. Hopefully she's got and good sleep and she'll be pleased to have her Daddy back home. He had to go away and work this weekend so missed the fun. We bought him an egg though.
I had a quiet evening. Dinner was a chicken sandwich with Christmas cranberry sauce. I always make a few jars for throughout the year. Brie and cranberry is one of my favourite sandwich fillings so it doesn't go to waste.
Duolingo then time for bed! I finished the week top of my group in a Duolingo. I'm going to give up when this year's subscription comes to an end. I finished the French course a couple of months back and I know I'm not at the level it claims I should be. I feel it's actually become more of a game and takes time I could use in other ways. I've a seven year streak, so it's going to be strange for a while I think.
I've been filling the time doing the DuoLingo maths course which I have been finding surprisingly tricky at times. Some of their illustrations I find unhelpful, I think I'm too literal.
Meanwhile I'll carry on with, Wordle, Quordle, Blossom, Connections, Strands, the Telegraph Panagram, Sorted, Plus word and Kakuro! That's enough.
Happy Easter everyone, Alleluia, He is risen.
