Electricity on the move ...

Today we followed the Spey to its source or close to it up past Loch Laggan right to the end of the old military road. What we saw in this quiet and peaceful glen was the evidence of industry. The Glen was mainly owned by Rio Tinto Alcan who had made a canal and a dam to provide water for their aluminium plant at Fort William. There were also a series of electricity pylons being built through the glen to provide a different sort of electricity for other areas of Scotland. This is part of the Beauly to Denny power lines covering 140 miles and 600 pylons for wind farm electricity. So this beautiful area of Scotland far from many is being affected by the development of natural and sustainable electricity from water and wind. I am not sure how sustainable or natural they really are when you see the effect on the landscape.
