Gosford House, Longniddry
Several months ago I booked tickets for the Open Day Tour of Gosford House, a neo-classical mansion and the seat of the Earls of Wemyss, in East Lothian, designed by Scots architect Robert Adam. The shell of the house was completed in 1800 after his death. The tour was very informative about the architectural history and it was great to see the beautiful interiors with the vast art and furniture collection. Photographs are not allowed inside which is just as well as I would never have been able to decide what to blip. My main is the first photo I took as we parked the car.
Extra 1 - front entrance of the house
Extra 2 - back of the house facing Edinburgh Castle over the Firth of Forth
Extra 3 - more of the wonderful stone statues adorning the mansion.
It was a lovely sunny afternoon so we ate a picnic lunch on the lawn in front of the house before driving to Aberlady to visit the Scottish Ornithologist’s HQ. I was delighted to see lots of yellow tip butterflies in the garden there. After that, we paid a visit to a friend in the outskirts of Edinburgh for a catch up before heading back to Glasgow. A lovely day out with wonderful sunshine that was unexpected and very welcome.
