The problem is …

… not disobedience: it is blind obedience.

Urgings of not ‘obeying in advance’ have been made for several weeks now. Yet, in spite of that, some notable entities (huge law firms, mainstream media, FB, even the US Supreme Court, universities, etc…) have all bent the knee. It’s despicable and exactly how a bullying regime makes headways.

Interestingly enough, historically speaking, the very first time people were condemned for obeying was at the Nazi Nuremberg trials…

But now, we have Harvard University (a place many mock for being so ‘conservative) that decided to make a stand in the face of requests from the regime that Harvard do away with all DEI programs and subject its curriculum to scrutiny and approval by the regime. When Harvard first said ‘no’, the regime immediately pulled 2 billion in grants. When that didn’t budge it, the regime threatened to remove its tax exempt status. That’s when the head of Harvard wrote a public letter (well worth reading!) explaining why it still wouldn’t comply. And the regime flinched: several notes came out from various peons saying the demands the regime made on Harvard were sent by mistake, and other such stupid excuses. Well well…

All this to get back to the beginning of my entry: disobedience is what is needed now — from all quarters and by all sorts of entities and people. We have been taught to fear rebellion, to fear resistance, to fear the people who say no. But if history has taught us anything — and we’ve bled enough to learn it — it’s this: Obedience is the real threat.

You don’t need to pick up a weapon to say no. You don’t need to wait for permission to stop complying. Civil disobedience works because it reminds power that we were never theirs to begin with. And it works best before the boots hit the street.

So I hope that today, the peaceful protests who are called for across the country bring together even more people than last month. So far, it looks promising:)
