Cross-border raid

The main road is shut for emergency gas main repairs. This is causing havoc and sending lots of vehicles past my house and through the village. It's a single-track road with passing places, but these folk don't know where the passing places are, or where it's possible to pass. Undaunted, I decided to go out and enjoy the sun rather than staying at home looking at various screens. There are further road closures towards Cranbrook, and I was sent on a scenic diversion whilst trying to think about where I should aim for. I finally decided to go towards the coast and sneak over the border to Jempson's.

We used to have a Jempson's in Hawkhurst, but they sold the site to Waitrose and retreated to Sussex. I don't know how many sites they have but this is where they started in 1935, it's in Peasmarsh, on the way into Rye. They are lovely shops selling local produce, baked goods, and meat, as well as some higher-end niche stuff and, in a partnership deal, some Morrisons products. I went here because they stock own-label handmade sausages which are very lovely.

From here I circled round the Marsh and back up to Tenterden and home with my foreign bounty.
