The Sprig lives

The sprig, found in a shattered pot at my brother's place was rescued, left in a glass with water. Algae grew but the sprig remained ok. A couple of days ago I took the plunge and put it in earth. Then today I noticed a tiny bit of growth.
I am continually amazed by the determination of life to survive.

I have no idea what plant it is.
