It was a chilly
start to a beautiful day!
So much to see now.

I drove off to Tranquille at 6:30. The sun already had a start on me. I took the route along the hill below my house and soon spotted a pair of white-tailed deer. They were grazing through the sagebrush, but were not stopping for pictures. It was a cool 1 C so I wasn't waiting long for a shot.

The sun was lighting up Tranquille Farm and the wetlands pond was still in shadow. I focused on the white huddle in the middle of the pond as I got closer. A small flock of American pelicans were resting with one sentinel standing guard.

I was delighted to see a pair of osprey on the old nest near the farm. They seem to like this perch on top of a power pole.

There was a herd of cattle, just mamas and calves, filling up the pasture above the road. The calves already have their ear tags and brands. I noticed that the ground has been nibbled to the roots and the field is covered in manure. I wondered how long it would be before the herd was moved.

I looked into the waterways below to road and found a kingfisher having a rest on a branch. It's a fuzzy shot with my telephoto, but I was thrilled to catch that shot. These birds are most elusive.

I had a look back across the wetlands at my mountains, then drove off for groceries and breakfast.

There's some paperwork that needs my attention this morning, but then I am moving into the start of our long Easter weekend.
