A BUSY, BUT TIRING DAY AT THE COMMUNITY FRIDGE
It was my first day back at the Community Fridge for a month and although I enjoyed it, as I always do, I was glad to get home and put my feet up!
All the volunteers were very kind, and looked out for me, but even sitting and chatting to people in the café made me feel tired, but I did it - and it was good to be back.
Whilst chatting to people, it was amazing to hear how many had also been feeling “under the weather” so we were able to commiserate with each other.
There were quite a lot of children there today, it being school holidays, and several of them were happy to play with the balloons, although I wasn’t that happy as I hate balloons. In fact, when our boys were small, they used to chase me around the house laughing and squeezing their balloons because they knew I didn’t like them and that has never left me.
There was lots of bread today - and it wasn’t all sliced either! We had some very nice sourdough olive bread, stone baked wheat and rye flour bread and lots of ciabatta and other rolls - and I’m pleased to say that most of it was taken. Just goes to show that although people may buy the “sliced and almost like plastic” bread, they do appreciate having some decent bread.
This week lots of Bags of Hope have been packed ready to go out to those in need for this weekend and many of them will contain Easter Eggs and little chicks, hand-knitted by some of our ladies with a Cadbury’s Creme Egg inside - so I’m sure they will be appreciated too.
I had some lovely conversations with various customers - all of whom expressed their thanks for all that we do. We have invited them to come to Church either tomorrow or on Easter Sunday and I think some of them may come - so must look out for them.
Hope you all have a good Easter weekend. M xx
