Do you remember Waltzers?
Today was the day of our local Gala. Yes, today, Sunday. I think the organisers moved it to Sunday from Saturday, the traditional day for the procession, in order to cause as little disruption to traffic as possible. It wasn’t a long procession, and had some well-presented and interesting entries, but I don’t think the carnivals at Rio, Notting Hill or Leeds have anything to worry about in the way of competition. We followed the procession, in traditional fashion, to one of the local parks where the Gala committee had organised some competitions and stalls, but like most people, we headed for the fun fair. As fun fairs go, it was outstanding, with more colour, more rides, more noise, more music, and more fun than you would ever expect from a travelling fairground. To be honest, it put Blackpool Pleasure Beach to shame! I took lots of photographs, giving myself a real headache when it came to selecting just one to blip. I hope you like the waltzers I’ve chosen. Waltzers have been with us for what seems like forever and are a common feature of travelling funfairs. Can you remember the fun of whirling around in a waltzer?
