A day at Kew gardens

The journey there and back went smoothly, for which I was grateful after various problems with train journeys recently. The only excitement was a practice evacuation of Earls Court tube station, but they made it clear in advance that we should ignore all the alarms and announcements.
The forecast said it would be windy and cloudy, but we had lovely sunshine all day. I met an old ( long-standing ) friend and we spent a lovely day wandering around and catching up on all our news and thoughts. We stayed outside almost all day, apart from a look in the water lily house (main) and a small greenhouse with rock plants where we saw Leucocoryne (left middle on collage) and Cape hyacinth (bottom right).
The wonderful things outside included tulips, hundreds of trees in blossom, and, when we walked into one of the remoter areas, not only masses of bluebells but also a very confident and unafraid fox:)
It’s a marvellous place to visit, I think, because of the huge variety of things grown, the expertise and creativity of the staff, and the beauty of the site itself. The only downside is that every 90 seconds or so a plane flies low directly overhead, descending to Heathrow.  But after a while I found I’d stopped noticing…
