Unusual

A trip into town and then the Metro train to Tynemouth where I met up with friends for lunch.  While in town I popped into Fenwick's.  This is Newcastle's major department store and over the last few years it has completely changed.  It was always a bit upmarket but there were definitely affordable things to buy.  Now it is very expensive.  It has an absolutely huge beauty department, the food department sells mainly luxury and expensive food.  The clothes department used to sell a mix of affordable and high end clothes and now it sells makes I have never heard of with a hefty price tag.  Don't get me wrong - it is still a very nice shop but I can't really afford to shop there much these days.  My worry is that there is not enough people in the North East of England who can afford the prices and I would be hugely upset if it had to close.  I understand the company as a whole made a loss in the last two years.  

My collage today shows a some things for sale in the gift department.  I did not  bother look at the price tags.
