A street scene from Navan
Amazing how actually having work to do can have an effect on what else you can get done. I mused a while ago how I ever had time to work – I think I have an answer. You just stop breathing, and then run around from place to place in a state of perpetual motion. So it was today. Up at 7, worked till 10 on the translation, and then remembered that Easter was coming up and we needed food. Normally, this can be put off, but we have a whole slew of appointments over the next days, so it was now or never. This meant a trip to Navan.
The Lavergne butcher’s is an interesting place. We first went there because our Polish neighbours recommended it – and it was so good, we kept on going back. It’s a bit of a schlepp – so you tend to buy more than you need – but it is good value and always interesting. Interesting, because the whole of Franco-Ontarian society seems to pass through it on a regular basis.
We did our Easter shopping and then got back into the car and drove all the way home. I unpacked the meat and put it into smaller parcels, keeping aside two pork chops, which were part of my tajine experiment later on. Then back to work.
The tajine worked out well with the pork chops. I cooked them with apples and onions and a bit of harissa paste – and they were perfect. Even Mrs. Ottawacker liked them.
