The new bridge is coming along...
I was in town today for the local election commitee of which I'm a member. Just now it's a quiet year for us; the EU election was last year, the parliamentary, county, and local elections are next year, all on the first Sunday in September. However, there is still important information, and new decisions to be made, so we meet three times this year. Up till now Swedish elections have been strictly analogue, but today we learned there will maybe be an optional digital route to take in 2026 - interesting!
While in town I took the chance to take a look at how the new bridge was coming along. So that big water-filled hole in the foreground will eventually be one of the 4 plinths on which the new bridge stands. There are two similar holes in the water (the sea) and one on the far bank. There never seems to be much going on but as the weeks pass things develop. I suppose it's because everything gets done by big machines so you only see a few people around. (There's been a lot of work going on underwater, but we don't get to see the divers at work either!) The bridge is due to be complete in the autumn 2026.
No work in the garden for me today, but Jan was hard at work and there was an immense pile of raked up dead, dry vegetation when I got home. All that material was turned into a rather small pile of ash, as I think you can see on Jan's blip!
I'm up a bit late tonight because I started baking some bread and it has all taken a bit longer than I thought it would. The actual baking should have taken 20 minutes but it's now been in 30 minutes and is still a bit cool and squishy in the middle. Will it work, or is it going to be a disaster? I'll know in about another 20 minutes!!!
Update - the bread turned out fine - very soft with a dark crust. I was using up a lot of old yogurt and cream so there is a lot of fat and protein in the bread. It's cooling off now and I'm headed to bed. Tasting tomorrow!
