LUPINUS affinis

On our way home from the park, I took
a detour to see the native CALIFORNIA LUPINES, that are blooming on the
mountainsides.

LUPINES are a diverse group of
wildflowers, native to California. There
are 82 species with unique leaf shape
& blue, purple, white or pale yellow flowers.

They have various habitats, including coastal area, mountainsides, & meadows, where they receive full sun. They are important for the ecosystem because the nectar is enjoyed by bees & hummingbirds.
The plant is also a larval host for a butterfly.

They are lovely to see in the Spring.
