And the last step - add all the soil from the hole and spread it evenly over the entire bed. As it’s raised it can cope with it even though there is a LOT of organic material in the bottom of the bed.

This is then covered with year old leaf mulch to keep moisture in the soil and surprises weeds. It works remarkably well and the bed remains moist, ready for planting.
