Jets At North Weald
I've had a lovely day.
Even though it was overcast and raining Mish and I went to The Squadron on North Weald airfield to find out if the planned jet flights were going to take place. I met Simon, a retired police officer and private pilot, who was working for Aero Legends as ground crew. A flight that was due to take place in the morning had been cancelled but he was hopeful about two scheduled for the afternoon. After a nice chat with Simon I came home for lunch.
I returned at 2:00pm alone in my Honda S2000. The Strikemaster was parked next to the Dakota. It stopped raining and the sun came out. A man of forty and an older woman were due to have jet flying experiences. She was a bit daunted by the ejection seat briefing. He was wanting a Top Gun feel but the Strikemaster has side-by-side seats. As the pilot walked out to the aircraft I loved that he took a double-take at my car. I loved the sound and smell of the jet as it took off. A Jet Provost also took to the air, the Strikemaster was developed from this aircraft. I loved the Fordson Major tractor that was being used to tow aircraft.
Simon can be seen refuelling the Stikemaster in my extra montage.
