Terrible photo...
...but pretty good for a FaceTime screenshot from the campervan!
G had a visit from an Occupational Therapist at home today, as part of her school appeal and EHCP review. This was a big step for her. She's always been very protective of her home as her safe space, and until now, had refused any home visits. Claire has always supported that boundary, so today’s meeting marked real progress.
Although G was understandably nervous beforehand, she handled it really well. The OT had a lovely, gentle approach — turning questions into playful, non-invasive activities, which helped G feel more at ease. It meant they could gather several quotes to ensure her voice is represented in the appeal. Claire said G seemed to warm to her and shared more than expected, which was really positive.
Interestingly, she called me right after — no clear reason, just quite lively on the phone, dashing around the farm and even stopping at the chicken coop before handing me to Mum and asking her to tell me about the visit. Then she disappeared off to the loo! That might sound small, but it’s actually a big shift. Normally, she doesn’t like us talking about appointments and prefers to avoid the topic. For her to invite the conversation, in her own way, is a really encouraging sign.
We're home now, had a cheeky Korean meal for tea. Now going to spend the evening unpacking, sorting washing and getting ready for work tomorrow boo!
Only 17 working days left until retirement.
