Living my dream

Produce processed

This is a selection of today's produce which I quickly captured before I began cleaning and chopping it.

The meat is an old chunk of venison which I discovered in the bottom of the freezer which was only fit for mincing and turning into ragu sauce. That was one pot on the stove. I also made a vegetable bake with cheesy sauce, and a cauldron of celery, courgette and potato soup.

The soup will be very welcome this week. The maximum temperature was 13C today, with a soft but penetrating southerly breeze.

Bean and I walked on the Cape, where the view was cloudy to say the least. (Extra.) But it was nevertheless a lovely half hour of down and up, and by the time we were back at the car I was down to my second layer (or four). And Bean was still bouncing.

I went to Oamaru to see the practice nurse for my annual flu jab. Until I'm 65 I pay for the shot myself, but it is one of those things I consider a necessity.

As is the Covid booster. I'm due that on May 7th, and I checked the location of getting it: just one pharmacy in the town is providing them now. It is a walk-in service, reflecting the low demand compared with four years ago when people were desperate to be vaccinated and to start getting back to some semblance of normal life again. How quickly we forget...
