a bright new plant

I have a brand new pretty yellow hibiscus that was planted in the front yard a week and half ago. It's small, but came with a number of promising buds. The first one bloomed today!
 
Steve and I have been held down by a cold. Mine started a week ago, with sneezing, coughing and later a short lived fever. I think it's on the way out, but Steve still has a few more days. We are resting, hydrating and haven't done much except read. I'm enjoying Amy Tan's The Backyard Bird Chronicles. It's quite aligned with my interest in birds and half of the book has beautiful illustrations she did while birdwatching to go along with her observations.
