Diary of an Edinburgher

A blip-meet!

So today I had a blip-meet with Sue, of 66Daisies fame. We've met before - years ago now. She was travelling from Dundee on the train. It turned out to be a sunny day, and we were lucky with the predicted showers - they came later.

We What’sApp-ed, and managed to meet at the correct 'big, old monument', and had a look round my favourite - The Scottish Gallery. It's just wonderful, not only with the huge windows looking out over the Gardens, but the fantastic variety of paintings, some of them very famous. But the best bit was seeing and hearing a woman with three wee girls, aged about 6/7, all discussing each painting and pointing at different things they noticed. We listening surreptitiously to them at a couple of paintings. Delightful.

Talking of delightful - we had an excellent scone, jam and clotted cream in the cafe. And - doubly delightful - Sue didn't want her clotted cream, so I had it!

From there we walked along the Gardens, and then popped in to one of my favourite pubs - The Cafe Royal. Sue had her 'zero' Guinness there. Then we had a wee look in The Spence, and then fabulous Royal Bank Headquarters. Anne and Bob, who were here a week or so ago, will recognise all these places.

From there we popped to the new shopping centre for a brief look. Sue then went back to the station (not far) and I got a bus home. Then the rain started.

Archie and I had a walk round the Links in the rain...

It was a great day out. It's always fun to show visitors around all the lovely bits of our city.
