What I've Done

High Tove panorama

As we've enjoyed a period of about 8 weeks of dry weather, we thought it a good opportunity to walk some of the Wainwright's described even by the great man himself as "boggy". Also as we're in the middle of the school holidays, we didn't want to travel far.

A short drive to Watendlath, and a walk over High Tove, High Seat and Armboth Fell. AW described Armboth fell thus:
Peak baggers may have cause to visit the summit, but other walkers may justifiably consider its ascent a waste of precious time and energy... ...for the flat, desolate top is little better that a quagmire, a tangle of swamp, heather and mosses ...  ... It can be said of very few fells that they are not really worth climbing; Armboth Fell is one of the few.

A damming indictment indeed, but on a dry March day, with bone dry ground and the most spectacular cirrus, wispy sky, it was a great day. It is usual to be up there totally alone, but there were many people who seemed to have the same idea as us, though I'd hardly call it busy.
