Railway Bridge at Killicrankie

A slightly more challenging walk than I'm used to (lots of ups and downs) and by the time we were heading back I was falling behind. So everyone else went on ahead. (By this stage they thought it was probably safe to leave me on my own to puddle with angles and exposures - and besides they had other things to do).

Anyway, I took this picture of the viaduct from halfway back up the side of the gorge. It was apparently built around about the same time as our house - making it 150 years old this year. Guess there was a lot of expansion in Scotland when the railways first ploughed their way through the countryside.

So, I eventually made it back to starting point. There was no sign of anyone anywhere in the shop so I headed for the car. No sign of them there either, so I assumed they were in the loo or something. Reckoned that the sensible thing to do was to wait there for them.

So I sat down beside a bit of exposed stone that seemed to have the turf and weeds removed from it every so often. Turned out that someone had done this to show off the bit ( exposed bit was about 5 feet in diameter) of General Wade's road that runs through the site. And I sat.

The others had waited for me further down the trail and when I didn't go past they worried. The daughter went off looking for me and the and eventually decided to try the car. I wasn't the world's favourite person at that point.

Still, a good day was had by all.
