Dragonfly

I went to the Ouse Washes nature reserve at Welney in Norfolk today. I've previously been here during the winter when the washes are flooded and the reserve is home to thousands of swans, geese and other wildfowl. Today however the water levels have receded and the wetland meadows are exposed, and the feel of the reserve is totally different. The most obvious is the lack of water and also a significant change in the types of birds on the reserve.

I had a good walk around visiting hides, and saw some butterflies and a Silver Y moth, and I also went on a wildflower walk, and went on what is called the summer walk, where you can walk out across the washes.

It was quite an overcast day so there were not many dragonflies about. Ironically I saw this dragonfly in a part of the reserve which was nowhere near the dragonfly ponds. I liked this head-on view of the dragonfly, and you can see the detail in its wings, so worth a look large
