The bottom of the ‘hole’ is now filled with logs, twigs, garden offcuts, trimmings and other garden cuttings.

It absorbed a surprising amount, which would normally have been discarded as the fillings were too thick to compost. This is making an ‘airy’ open base which, over the next few months, will rot down.
