My Life With Luna

By chrisA

I had to go into Ipswich with Maddie and her Mum this afternoon to choose a special present for Alfie's fast approaching 21st birthday.
Opposite the jewellers is the Ancient House,  a grade 1 listed building from the 15th century.
'It sports detailed pargeting and elaborate carvings around the front of the house.
Four panels show aTudor impression of the world, Africa,  America, Asia and Europe  (Australia hadn't been discovered at the time).
The decorative front of the building as seen today (in a restored state) was not an original feature,  it was added by a Robert Sparrowe  between 1660-1670.   It bears the Royal Arms of King Charles II.   The old French words translate to 'shame upon him who thinks evil of it' which is also the motto of the Order of Garter'.    Thanks to Wikipedia, where there are further interesting facts.
