A Perfect Bench for Sitting / Between Two Worlds
It was a beautiful, sunny, blue-sky spring day with a chilly breeze at the edges of things. The weather was very pleasant and we decided to make a day of it and head up to Bald Eagle State Park. My husband wanted to jog, and I would take my tunes box along and walk around the park.
My husband skipped jogging last week because he wasn't feeling well; we both weren't, actually: typical head-cold type stuff. We've both had it for more than a week at this point and it does seem like it's leaving us, but not nearly fast enough, in my opinion.
But it was a gorgeous day out, and we didn't want to waste it. So we hopped in the car and headed for the park. He dropped me off at the beach area, parked the car, and went out for a jog. I met him back at the car about an hour later, after touring the beach, the butterfly trail, and the frog pond.
Above you may see a photo of a perfect bench for sitting, located by the frog pond. Of course, I sat in it a while and enjoyed the views. There were some splendid reflections available there. The pink tree was just amazing, and its flowers dripped over me like a veil. (More pink tree photos available on Instagram.)
After a bit, I noticed an older couple walking toward me (you may see them to the left, in the distance, in my shot), and I vacated the bench, knowing for sure that this was their destination; and it was. I got up and walked along the edge of the pond toward them; above me, a bird sang a fine and complex tune.
As they walked up to me, I gestured upward and said, "I don't know what kind of bird that is, but it is singing its heart out just for us today!" They agreed with me that it was indeed a fine day, that it was a lovely bird song, and wow, what a splendid spot for a bench! They sat down as I walked away, all of us enjoying the day.
We'd had a chilly start, by the way, with temperatures in the 20s overnight. As an added bonus, I got to make what may have been the last set of bubbles first thing in the morning. It was a few degrees below freezing when I woke up.
My bubbles didn't seem to want to get solid for me, but it was pretty anyway. I added some purple flowers from the yard (see photo in extras): chionodoxa, glory-of-the-snow. It felt like we were living between two worlds: it was winter in the morning, and springtime in the afternoon.
I have two photos so here are two songs. First, for my perfect bench and the story of two strangers and a girl they never met before standing enchanted beneath a singing bird by a frog pond, I've got Styx, with Sing for the Day. And for my semi-frozen bubble with spring flowers on a chilly April morning that felt like winter, here is Tom Petty, with Between Two Worlds.
