Rosebery gone
I had a message that our car was ready to collect so I headed off by bus. I changed at Haymarket. I’d not been there for some months so I was surprised to see, on stepping off the bus, that the building, Rosebery House, had gone. Apparently there is to be a new 8 storey net zero building to go in its place.
What it did open up was the view to the chimney of the former Caledonian distillery (which closed in 1988). Over a century ago it seemingly had one of the largest stills of its time (1000 gallons) drawing water from the nearby Union Canal.
Much of the site has been redeveloped but the chimney stack remains for the time being.
Otherwise a grey cool day with the east winds bringing in cloud until mid-afternoon. When it brightened up it was lovely and the colour in the gardens was enhanced. Took my mind off the turmoil in world markets and the economic and democratic system in the USA. The more one hears about what is going on underneath the radar the more worrying it sounds. What will be gone next? Freedom of speech if you don’t sign up to the MAGA mantra?
