Burning da Hedder

Another fine day, calm but cloudy.  Still dry.  A lovely calm evening.

Working with Jack and Lewis again on the sooth essykert, more paper recycling waste, from Sandwick and Cunningsburgh.  Lifeat60Degrees caught me in action on his Blip today.  Walkies with Sammy after work.  Various chores done around the house, now feet up.

The past few days there's been smoke rising from the hills close by, today it was closer and visible from my house.  Thankfully we don't see the burning of heather very often these days, but some folk still do.  With the fine dry spell, calm too, I suppose it makes perfect conditions to do it.  The theory is it helps the ground, gets rid of old heather, and encourages new growth.  I just hope there hasn't been any nesting birds or any other wildlife caught up in the panic of the flames.  The smoke was thick, but smells nice when it did waft down from the hill.  The blackened fiery hills from Hawthorn Cottage garden, Houl Road, Scalloway.
