Blip Dilemma
B and I took the 'Backstage Thursford Tour' today. Some of you may have heard of the 'Thursford Christmas Spectacular', it's a huge theatrical show held every December in the unlikely tiny village of Thursford in North Norfolk. The site was a cattle farm many years ago, and you could say that they have diversified somewhat! It's still run by the same family and attracts 100,000 visitors a year (from all over the UK). In addition to the show at Christmas they have a collection of agricultural and road-rolling steam traction engines and some truly spectacular fairground engines which were bought by George Thomas Cushing around the 1940s.
I have so many photos I could have blipped so it was very difficult to choose. I found the costume store particularly interesting and the cost of producing just the costumes for the show is quite staggering. This headdress cost around £3000 as it's handmade, they will often have several of these in one scene. The stage is the longest theatre stage in England.
I have blipped some extras, an Intentionally blurry photograph of the visitors riding the horse carousel and a fabulous fairground organ, made in Paris.
Along with the tour, we were treated to two Wurlitzer organ concerts by the most amazingly skilled organist who had 3 keyboards, two different rows of foot pedals and numerous rows of organ stops to manipulate. He's been playing the Wurlitzer there for 45 years (and yes, it did rise up through the floor). In addition we enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea, complete with a lovely selection of sandwiches, scones and cakes.
It was a most enjoyable day. I have included a link below in case you wish to find out more.
