Pauldie, The Bunny Laid To Rest
Pauldie, the bunny was a very unusual wild rabbit. She lived for 10 years with us from a few days old when she was rescued from the jaws of a cat by two 6 year old girls.
They decided that the ‘Rabbit Lady’ would know what to do.
Patricia did know what to do and after taking the tiny little rabbit to the local vet, she cared for the little creature who lived with us for ten years.
This all happened some 40 years ago when we lived in Dunblane.
Pauldie was frozen after she died and kept in a refrigerator ice box until three days ago.
The refrigerator had stopped working and after a day or so, Pauldie could be removed and buried. She had been wrapped in a towel and then sealed in an RIAS plastic carrier bag.
Pauldie lived with two Norwegian Dwarf Rabbits called Hop and Scotch. They were joined by Scrabble who was a very large lop-eared Rabbit.
Hop, Scotch and Scrabble were buried under a Rowan Tree in our garden when they died.
Pauldie outlived them all.
The refrigerator has now started working again.
To make clear, Pauldie’s refrigerator was not used for food.
Pauldie’s life was full of all sorts of incidents, travel and adventures. I kept a diary of them all along with cartoons featuring all four rabbits.
Perhaps it might become a book for children.
