Birds and bruck

April is Bag The Bruck month up here. During the winter the storms result in huge amounts of rubbish, mostly plastic, on the Orkney beaches and in April, local organisations,  clubs, groups, individuals arrange beach cleans. Gloves and bin bags are provided and the council collects them from the road end nearest the beach.

Lottie and I went down to Sandwick and I gathered a good bag full, mainly bits of nylon rope and pieces of plastic. Lottie entertained herself rolling on long dead seals. As dogs do!

It was another fantastic day of sunshine and lovely to see all the oystercatchers on the beach. No humans around, although a good pile of bin bags so there must have been a quite a few folk down in the last few days. As we walked back up to the car, the sound of the gulls and oystercatchers was replaced by that of peewits and skylarks. No better sound, unless you add in curlews!

Home, and a bath for Lottie!
