Lloyd's annual 1927 & 28
I found this treasure in our bedroom when we arrived at Mr hazelh's parents' house this afternoon. I have already leafed through the annual and discovered some 'new to us' photographs, pieces of writing, and art work by Lorna Lloyd (then aged 13/4), her brother Theo, her parents Bertie and Topsie, and various other Lloyd relations. The funny thing is that I know for certain that I have seen this album before, but with only a passing curiosity. I remember looking at a letter pasted into it in Bristol in the early 1980s, wondering why Mr hazelh's great grandfather would be offering his services to Yorkshire Cricket Club (which, of course, he wasn't doing really). The most interesting items - so far at least - are Lorna's school reports. This is because they make frequent reference to absences. As a teenager, could she already have been suffering from the cancer that killed her aged just 28?
I enjoyed our journey here, completely absorbed with a work task. The journey from Edinburgh to London passed in a flash. On the second leg of the journey, however, I received an email that brought this work to a sudden halt. For the sake of my professional reputation, I feel that I have no option to step back from this project. This is despite the hours that I have poured into it. It's such a pity because with a little more effort on my part, the output of this work could be a valuable contribution to research.
I am looking forward to a relaxing family evening and all that tomorrow brings when the four of us head to deepest Dorset for a wee holiday together.
Exercise today: tiny amount of walking (as will be the case for the whole week, I fear).
