Buckland Abbey Today
Buckland Abbey was founded by Cistercian Monks in 1278 and was the daughter house of Quarr Abbey on the Isle of Wight. It remained an abbey until the dissolution of the Monasteries by Henry VIII.It is unusual in that the church was retained as the main feature of the house following the dissolution. Both inside and outside can be found remnants of the original monastic building.
