Board Meeting

It’s not the best photo, but it was a terrific moment: I pulled over onto a side road to let some cars go by and oh, good lord, there was a conversation of turkeys in the middle of the street. There they were, all in a row with their tails fanned out, one in particular presiding. We don’t care Why The Turkeys Crossed The Road, but are wondering why on earth they stayed there. Of course I wished for my zoomier camera, even as I tried to walk quietly toward this bunch. They began to gobble, and then broke formation and continued off into the orchard, but I will giggle to remember the gaggle as they disappeared under the gravensteins.

We are back home, having had a pleasant time away. Today involved a brief drive to get some special chocolate scones (yes, they are all special, but some are specialer and have way more chocolate), and a short hike in a regional park, where I heard, then saw, a flock of migrating geese high in the white sky. They were in traditional formation, then stretched out in a thin dark jagged line like the flickering long tail of a kite. I wanted their cries to go on forever, the pull of that music, the longing.
